Morzine is an authentic village in the heart of Portes du Soleil, known as the capital of this 650km ski area. Fall in love with the abundance of wood and slate, and the beautiful views of the valley full of fir trees! This Alpine town is situated close to the border with Switzerland and offers an easy connection to Geneva and both Avoriaz and Let Gets.

Authenticity is key in Morzine: you won’t find any tall buildings here, only picturesque chalets. In total the village counts 50 hotels and chalets. As there are plenty of activities for every season, locals are actually living here the whole year and sharing their life with visitors.

What to do

If you’re not a dedicated skier or snowboarder, this is one of those destinations where there are a reasonable amount of other activities to pass the day while your companions are whizzing down the mountain. These include the following:

  • Ice-diving beneath a lake
  • Nature discovery tours: thanks to the lower altitude, the nature is absolutely fabulous here!
  • Snowmobiling
  • Snow tubing
  • Shopping
  • Watching a hockey game (Skoda Arena)
  • Visiting cheese dairy cellars: L’Alpage (restaurant of la Ferme Fruitière)
  • Enjoying the swimming complex including a spa area
  • Beer tasting at le Bec Jaune (local brewery)
  • Cinema

Believe me when I say that the Morzine ski slopes are an absolute must, even if you are only a beginner (like I am)! It is the ideal place to discover two countries, two cultures! Immense areas with exceptional views, roads winding among hundred-year-old larch trees, old Swiss walls that have now taken on mythical dimensions: in the Portes du Soleil you’ll find a wide diversity of landscapes offering very different skiing experiences. Depending on what you’re looking for, there are a number of possibilities. The Portes du Soleil ski resort has: 196 ski lifts serving 280 slopes. Connections between the different areas are easy: Morzine and Abondance, Avoriaz, la Chapelle d’Abondance, Châtel, les Gets, Montriond and St Jean d’Aulps; and in Switzerland, Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, and the villages of Val d’Illiez, Les Crosets and Champoussin. In the Morzine – Les Gets sector there are 46 ski lifts and 66 slopes (9 black, 28 red, 24 blue, 5 green); in the Avoriaz sector 36 ski lifts and 51 slopes (6 black, 14 red, 25 blues, 6 green).

We experienced what authentic accommodation and a passionately personal service means in Morzine. Martine welcomed us with a smile at Le Pass Montagne!
