For the ski laymen amongst us: Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is a pretty Savoie village at the heart of the Vanoise massif in the 3 Valleys – Les Trois Vallées. The village is spread over 22 hamlets in the same valley and it is known for its authenticity and unassuming charm. With its narrow roads, stone farms, and lofty bell tower, it has retained all the charm of the mountain villages of yore. Let’s explore together this famous winter sport area: what else does it offer besides skiing? How does the non-skier experience it? What is the ideal crib for the night?

What to do – To ski or not to ski?

Let’s start with what the non-skiers or non-snowboarders amongst us are up to in this region. The possibilities are endless: a rich Baroque heritage, picturesque hamlets, a wide range of walks in unspoilt sites (the valleys of Les Encombres and Nant Brun, Col de la Lune, Lac du Lou), and countless activities and recreational facilities just 5 km away in Les Menuires, 14 km away in Val Thorens, and 40 km away in Méribel and Courchevel.

For visitors interested in local heritage, take an expedition through the hamlets to discover baroque churches and chapels, mills and old baking ovens. Furthermore, there is also the village museum, which tells the story of the valley throughout the 20th century. In summer, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is a luscious green haven: the ideal location for hiking, mountain biking, and a variety of other outdoor activities like horse riding, donkey rides, via ferrata, zip wires, fishing, etc.

Saint-Martin-de-Belleville

In winter, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is coated in white. As it is situated at the entrance of the 3 Valleys, it provides access to one of the world’s most fascinating and extensive ski domains. Ski and snowboard lovers, imagine this: 600 km of pistes, 320 slopes, 25 mountain peaks between 1,300 and 3,230m, 175 ski lifts… The 3 Valleys domain covers 450 km² in total! No wonder La Vallée de Belleville has become the world leader in terms of winter sports: it welcomes more than a million skiers each season. Thanks to the preservation of its village soul, Saint-Martin-De-Belleville attracts visitors looking not only for great skiing, but also for authenticity and gastronomy.
