Attention, kindness, and professionalism: these are the key values of La Bouitte, the famous hotel and three star Michelin restaurant that offers a premium ski experience in the heart of the French Alps. La Bouitte in the Belleville valley is definitely one to write down on your gastronomic bucket list. It’s a little slice of paradise nestled on 1500m altitude in the village of Saint-Marcel-de-Belleville, on the road to Les Menuires and Val-Thorens. This Savoie village with narrow streets has plenty of authentic stone farms, and a lofty bell tower. Indeed, it has retained all the charm of the mountain villages of yore. You will find this authentic and charming style also in the La Bouitte hotel: cosy wood and stone chalets that offer the taste of good life. It’s almost too easy to feel at home and relax thanks to the outstanding service of the crew.

The Hotel

The story of La Bouitte is the story of a family and its passion for food. René and Maxime Meilleur, father and son, offer a creative cuisine that respects the quality of local products and the art of cooking. Did you know that it’s the highest 3-star restaurant in Europe? The hotel is since 2016 a “Relais & Châteaux” member and its ambiance is quite particular: a mountain chalet with schist shingles, stone walls, and wood panelling, which brings warmth both in terms of colour and temperature. The family women succeeded in radiating an intimate family ambiance thanks to the interior design: framed photos and souvenirs of Madame Meilleur’s family, warm-hues on the beds to complement the wood on the walls, treasures unearthed in flea-markets and antiques fairs all over France… Each room has its own personality.

 The Rooms

There are 16 rooms and suites and each room has its own unique identity. The rooms are inspired by traditional Savoie design: ubiquity of wood, warm materials and 17th century to contemporary furniture. Comfortability and modern technology go hand in hand. Certain bedrooms combine heritage with purer, more modern design. All the rooms have female names, all of them members of the Meilleur family. We had the opportunity to stay in La Célestine: a gorgeous and charming room with plenty of space and a balcony overlooking the village and the snowy mountain tops in the back.

The Facilities

Bela Vya is the name of La Bouitte’s famous mountain spa. All the well-being techniques are inspired by Mother Nature. You should definitely try Marie’s bath with milk and mountain honey. Or do you prefer a hay treatment with mountain water and aromatic herbs? I loved drifting away in the steam bath infused with hay from alpine pastures and soothing mountain scents. Whether it’s snowing or not, you shouldn’t miss the open-air Jacuzzi with the splendid panorama of mountain peaks. Everywhere in the hotel are hidden cosy corners where you can sit back and relax after an exhausting skiing day. If you look well, you might even find a cinema corner where you can project movies on a big screen!
