Savoy Hotel Yangon – Kipling Restaurant

Founded in 1995 and since then in private ownership, the Savoy Hotel Yangon is a colonial boutique hotel. The hotel is located in the picturesque area of Yangon, overlooking the Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar’s “twinkling wonder” and the nearby People’s Park. Moreover, it takes only ten minutes by car from the city center and 20 minutes to the International Airport.

Yangon is Myanmar’s most important city from a commercial and economic point of view. It used to be the country’s capital until 2005, when the greenfield site Naypyidaw received the honor. Every year more and more tourists are visiting Myanmar and Yangon is evolving step by step towards a modern city with its parkland areas, placid lakes, wide streets and tree-lined boulevards.

The Savoy Hotel breathes colonial and romantic atmosphere. Every room hosts traditional Myanmar antiques, teak furniture and other authentic and local decorations. Nicely overshadowed by tall old trees, the pool with its lounge area makes the Savoy Hotel a silent oasis in the middle of the buzzing city.

This tasteful colonial style continues in the restaurant and bar. The Kipling’s Restaurant and its outdoor terrace offer a fusion of Asian and Western cuisine where traditional recipes and secrets combine to create mouthwatering dishes, all of this whilst enjoying a splendid view of either the famous Shwedagon Pagoda, either the tranquil pool area. The friendly service and impeccable presentation of the delicious plates make you wonder for an instant in which of the many Buddhist heavens you just woke up…

Nicely overshadowed by tall old trees, the pool with its lounge area makes the Savoy Hotel a silent oasis in the middle of the buzzing city.

Hey you! In a nutshell: I studied in Spain, lived in Brazil, and I’m currently working in Antwerp. I usually tell people that the only thing a lady needs is travel, good food & wine. The truth is that I need one more thing on top of that: sharing it with you! That’s why I decided to write down my experiences on this blog, together with my partner in life & love, Jens. I’d love to hear about your experiences as well, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
